Guardians of the Galaxy surpassed Fast & Furious 6 this weekend to become the biggest U.S. hit of Vin Diesel’s career. Currently, the film has raked in over $250 million after a $17 million weekend. Fast & Furious 6 made $239 million during its entire theatrical run.

The third-biggest domestic hit on his resume is also an ensemble piece in which Diesel played a relatively small role: Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan. Fast Five and The Fast and the Furious round out his personal top five.
While Diesel would be easy to think of as the biggest star in the movie, actors like Chris Pratt (The Lego Movie) and Zoe Saldana (Avatar) have one or a couple of monster hits that push Guardians down their list. This week, though, will likely see Guardians surpass Star Trek, cracking Saldana’s top three (behind Avatar and Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl). Guardians will also soon pass The Lego Movie to become Pratt’s biggest hit.
Guardians hasn’t done as well overseas, where more established properties like Transformers: Age of Extinction and Captain America: The Winter Soldier have been truly dominant this year. However, there are some major markets where Guardians of the Galaxy has yet to open.
It’s widely expected to surpass The Winter Soldier at the domestic box office to become the biggest hit of 2014 so far sometime this week.
Guardians of the Galaxy is now playing in theaters.
