Free Comic Book Day 2016 is coming pretty soon believe it or not, and comic shops have gone the extra mile this year to support it. Comic retailers have ordered more than 6 million free books for the big day, which falls on May 7th this year. Overall it is about a 7% increase over last year, which wasn’t shabby either at 5.6 million ordered.

Free Comic Bood Day’s (FCBD) Dan Manser had this to say about this years growth.
“Free Comic Book Day is a wonderful event for independently owned and operated comic book shops,” said FCBD spokesperson Dan Manser. “It provides them a great opportunity to connect with new and existing customers and gain momentum moving into the summer months and the rest of 2016.”
He’s right about FCBD being a huge draw. My local comic shop alone has seen a huge turn out, especially last year, and it exposes people to the hobby that wouldn’t necessarily seek it out just on a whim. This year there will be 50 free titles to choose from, including some from Dark Horse, DC, Marvel, IDW, Image, and more.
Make sure to mark your calendar this year, as there are some fantastic books to choose from, and most shops have some great sales going on as well. You can view all the titles that will be available here.
