12 Monkeys is back, and it is battier (and better) than ever. After last week’s big cliffhanger, tonight wasn’t any different, with major moments going right up until the end of the episode.

Rather than a traditional recap, we’re jumping around through the episode (because time travel, you see…) and giving you the five craziest moments each week. This week it was REALLY hard to cut #6, but we were able to at least kind of merge it with one. It’s an episode titled “Primary,” but I like to call it “Sons and Daughters.” Read on for why.

KILLER CASSIE

It was clear from the final moments of the season two premiere that Cassie wasn’t the woman she used to be. Her cold-bloodedness in killing the three members of the Army of 12 Monkeys showed that. But seeing that transformation in the opening montage of tonight’s second episode really made it settle in. Cassie simply is not who she was in season one. That was all capped off when, after leaving Cole in the past and bringing Ramse back with her instead, she seeminglyย threatened his son with harm when he wasn’t cooperating. Cold-blooded indeed.

TIME HEADACHES

Everyone that’s been “outside time” thanks to Dr. Jones’ serum has a hell of a day when the virus gets burned. Time starts to re-write itself around them โ€“ Ramse, Cole, and Cassie all buckle over in the past, nose bleeds and headaches taking over. In the future, Katrina watches the walls and documents change, but her daughter’s blanket doesn’t. It’s a really cool sequence, as we get to actually witness time being re-written. What has changed? Clearly not enough.

DEACON BACKSTORY

We’re finally getting some backstory for Deacon, and it’s scary how likable and relatable they’ve managed to make him in just two episodes. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still a psychopath, but now he’s a psychopath with some actual reasoning behind it, and Todd Stashwick is just so damn charming.

โ€œYOU TWO TOGETHER IS THE END OF THE WORLDโ€

During one of Jennifer’s more rant-y moments in the episode, she talked about what she sees, including the fact that if Cole and Cassie get together, it’s the end of the world. That’sโ€ฆ not a good sign for fans who want these two crazy kids to make it through. The smile on her face in the 1944 picture has us wondering โ€“ is that a good or bad thing?

MEET THE DAUGHTERS

Future Jennifer Goines, thanks to Cole’s encouragement, has her own people โ€“ and her own purpose. The Daughters repay Cole’s kindness, getting him back to the future. “I wanna be a daughter again,” she said โ€“ now she has “daughters” of her own. Oh, they happen to also be warrior badasses, and we’re more than sure we haven’t seen the last of them.
