Marvel Studios debuted the first footage from highly anticipated superhero epic Avengers: Infinity War at D23 and San Diego Comic Con over the summer, but if you weren’t there — or if you didn’t catch one of the leaks — your concept of the Avengers threequel is little more than an official poster and some promo art. There were rumors the trailer would accompany the arrival of Inhumans to ABC in late September, but that premiere came and went. Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige revealed when to expect the trailer, and co-president and producer Louis D’Esposito revealed the trailer is “currently being finished.” So when might we see that official, legal, not pirated, not captured-in-480p trailer drop?
Thor: Ragnarok
Marvel Studios’ next blockbuster, Thor: Ragnarok, hits theaters November 3 — making it the likeliest movie to have the Infinity War trailer attached. Disney is all about synergy, and what better way to advertise the biggest Marvel movie of next year than attaching it to Marvel’s last big event of 2017? Infinity War is just a few months away, and the best time to remind audiences of that fact is when they’re already in the theater for Ragnarok.
If spoilers are a concern — although we already know Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) make it out of Ragnarok and into Infinity War — Marvel could run the first look after the credits, the way a trailer for The Avengers trailed Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi
The movie event of the year, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, opens December 15 and if our first look at Infinity War doesn’t come with Thor: Ragnarok, it’s a given the footage will run with Star Wars. Disney wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to have that many eyes on what’s destined to be the blockbuster event of the summer, meaning we’ll have footage no later than December.
In December 2015, trailers for some of 2016’s biggest movies played ahead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, including Captain America: Civil War, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Deadpool. By the time December rolls around, Infinity War will be less than five months away from release, meaning footage will be attached whether it premieres with The Last Jedi or arrives ahead of time.
Justice League
If the Infinity War trailer isn’t finished in time for Thor: Ragnarok, as unlikely as it is, it wouldn’t be out of the question for the trailer to be attached to Justice League. The upcoming superhero team up from rival studio Warner Bros. arrives just two weeks after Thor, and it would give families something to talk about over those excruciating Thanksgiving dinners.
The trailer could also be with us by time of Disney-Pixar’s Coco, in theaters for Thanksgiving on November 22. This is less likely; regardless of how the animated family adventure performs, the Infinity War trailer will make its theatrical debut ahead of a live-action blockbuster that will be seen by the largest possible audience.
The expansive confirmed Infinity War cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bethany, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, and Josh Brolin as the villain Thanos. Avengers: Infinity War opens May 4.
