The most conspicuous absence from the list of planned DC Comics superhero movies that recently surfaced was a solo Batman movie. Ben Affleck will debut as Bruce Wayne in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and is signed to a multi-picture deal, which includes his return in Justice League.

A new rumor, being reported by the Latino Review, suggests that Warner Bros. is looking at releasing Affleck’s first solo Batman film in 2019. The film currently has the working title The Batman.

The report also speculates that Affleck could direct The Batman himself, suggesting that caveat may be responsible for the long contract negotiations involved with getting Affleck into the Batsuit in the first place.

As the report notes, the timetable for a 2019 Batman movie starring Affleck checks out. Filming for Justice League should finish by summer of 2015, leaving Affleck plenty of time to work on his next non-superhero project, Live by Night, before donning the cape and cowl again to begin production on The Batman in 2017 or 2018.

This is still just a rumor and, considering this project is five years out, I wouldn’t expect official confirmation or denial from the Warner Bros. any time soon.

Ben Affleck will make his Batman debut in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, opening in theaters May 6, 2016.
