Disney Infinity on Lack of Marvel Female Characters “We Definitely Want to Make That Right”

A completely new, and completely different play set for Disney Infinity 3.0 hits shelves today, as Marvel Battlegrounds brings together all the 2.0 and 3.0 Marvel Comics characters for a battle royale of epic proportions. Packed in with the second Captain America figure, “Captain America: The First Avenger,” the play set also sees the release of Ant-Man, Black Panther, and The Vision as added figures.

That, unfortunately, underlines the one major complaint fans have about Disney Infinity‘s Marvel character selection: the ratio of male to female characters is now 26 to 2. There are two Captain Americas, two Iron Mans, and two Spider-Mans, but the only female characters are Black Widow and Gamora.

“I know we’re not announcing anything yet,” Art and Creative Director Jeff Bunker of Disney Interactive told ComicBook.com in an exclusive interview when asked about the lack of female characters, “but I will tell you that personally, I am very aware of that, and we definitely want to make that right. I’ll go that far.”

The Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition will be a platform for at least another year, as Disney Interactive recently revealed they will not release another major software/hardware upgrade in 2016, instead releasing more play sets and individual characters over the course of the year. Another Disney Interactive representative underlined that while they’re not ready to make any new character announcements yet, “there are more Marvel characters on the way.”

Disney Infinity: Marvel Battlegrounds is on shelves today. Stay tuned for more from Bunker on the new characters.
