Levar Burton’s Kickstarter campaign to bring back Reading Rainbow for every child, everywhere has passed $2 million dollars in the first days since its launch.Cancelled in 2009 after 25 years on the air, Reading Rainbow was a formative educational experience for an entire generation of young readers. Following its cancellation, Burton and RRRKidz developed a Reading Rainbow iPad and Kindle app to introduce Reading Rainbow to a younger, more tech savvy generation. The Reading Rainbowย app has become the bestselling educational app, but Burton wants to bring the Reading Rainbow experience to everyone, not just the kids with access to a tablet. The Kickstarter campaign funds will be used to develop a Reading Rainbow program that works across multiple platforms that is available for free to kids and classrooms, as well as add significantly to the number of books available to read in the the app.The campaign reached $1 million in its first 11 hours and has doubled that number since. That seems like a pretty good start for a campaign that still has 33 days left to go.You can donate to the Reading Rainbow Kickstarter campaign here.
