Arguably one of the most level-headed characters in a post-apocalyptic world, Morgan Jones (Lennie James) goes day to day by holding himself to a rule — to not kill, even while facing death itself.

The character takes a page out of the book of pacifism in nearly everything he does, even convincing King Ezekiel (Khary Payton) to not partake in a conflict with the Saviors, led by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

As the back half of this season progresses, showrunner Scott M. Gimple says Morgan’s inner-conflict with himself will loom large.

“Although Morgan remains so committed to not killing that he advised Ezekiel not to involve the Kingdom in Alexandria’s looming war with the Saviors, his live-and-let-live policy is about to become even “more of a struggle for him,” Gimple said in a recent interview with TVLine. “He thought that he had found [in the Kingdom] a place that worked for him, where he didn’t have to worry about killing or not killing. But in this world, [that issue] always finds him.”

With the Kingdom staying out of the impending war with the Saviors, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) has been forced to enlist help from a new group of strangers that call themselves the Scavengers. Led by Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh), the Scavengers live in a junkyard and remain a mysterious group with their true intentions having yet to be revealed.
