The opening rounds of ComicBook.Com’s Multiversal March Madness continue! Though DC and Marvel Comics are breaking the piggy bank on their endless realities with events Convergence and Secret Wars later this spring, the bracket fever from the NCAA March Madness has our minds stuck on the tournament style crossover event.

Like we explained in our opening post (where you can vote on different battles), we’re leaving to you to choose the winners in our own cross-company tournament. We’re in throwing in a nifty secret prize for the players with a winning bracket. But enough chit-chat. It’s time to get in the super-powered paint with the first round’s combatants.
The Infinity Gauntlet (New Xandar) Vs. The Korvac Saga (The City)
New Xandar (The Infinity Gauntlet)
Stats: The land of New Xandar might be Battleworld’s most frightening. The cosmic tale of The Infinity Gauntlet, after all, found the Mad Titan Thanos triumphant in his quest for all of the Infinity Gems. With the ability to control Space, Time, Soul, Power, Mind, and Reality, Thanos essentially transcended into an all-powerful god. It took the Marvel Universe’s combined might to stop him, with battles of universe-shattering proportions.
Strength: It’s hard to think the assembled heroes and villains of New Xandar, especially when you bring Thanos with the gauntlet into the mix, could be defeated by anyone. Up against other cosmic threats like those of The City, Thanos need merely think their existence ended, and it is.
Weakness: Of course, he was defeated, and one of the great powers of the Gauntlet, to someone that can wield it properly, is the ability to turn back the events of time – even death herself can be punished. Thanos’s bravado and singular purpose is often his undoing.
The Korvac Saga
Stats: In Battleworld’s “The City,” Michael Korvac is at his full strength. A cyborg from the 31st century, Korvac is imbued with the Power Cosmic – yes, the same one that powers characters like Silver Surfer and Galactus. Heroes from across time and space teamed to defeat him, including the original Guardians of the Galaxy, at least two living gods, the Avengers, and multiple aliens.
Strength: Against other cosmic heroes and villains, Korvac’s strength would be tested, but the power cosmic is the lifeblood of the very universe. It is possible that someone with complete control of it would be able to, at the very least, disarm someone of their ultimate weapon. They also have the foreknowledge of the future on their side for a little extra edge.
Weakness: Ultimately, this is a loose coalition of heroes, some of who have worked together for years and some of who are very new to working together. Even in battle with another realm, it would be hard to trust Korvac not to just turn on the rest of his land at any moment – especially when master manipulators like Death, Mephisto, and Thanos are playing for the other team.
