Power Rangers fans are heavily anticipating Lionsgate’s newest iteration of the series, which reboots the franchise on the big screen later this week. That includes Red Ranger icon Austin St. John, though his expectations differ slightly from the more casual fan.
ComicBook.com’s Jim Viscardi had the chance to catch up with St. John, and asked about his expectations for the upcoming film, a film that currently enjoys a 3.58 out of 5 on ComicBook.com’s anticipation rankings. “What are my expectations…you know, I don’t think my expectations are quite like the world’s expectations. I know what Jason is, and was to me. I know how I meant him to be, but he was perceived differently by so many. Special for some and not so special for others depending on where you fall. I think what’s going to be hard is the fact that regardless of whether you’re a Jason fan or not, everyone in the world has got an opinion about it. So, mister Dacre, he’s got some shoes to fill, and I’m excited for him. I am worried for him, and I just, I want to see the film come off without a hitch. I want to see it go well, I want to see the fans elated. I want to see everybody talking about how great it was, how their memories were ya know, just infused into this new version of the new Jason. It hasn’t been done in 23 years, I’m the only Jason.”

The spotlight can be daunting, and St. John understands what that’s like. “I’m excited. I’m worried. I’m happy and anxious, for him and for his castmates. Because they all, I mean the original five. That’s what started the FOX tidal wave. I’m told there’s never been a show with better ratings. 40 countries, 90 languages. I’d be nervous if I was him (laughs).”
