This week, BBC started filming the fourth series in Birmingham. While much about the new episodes has been kept under lock and key, a ton of new details were finally released today.

The first big announcement from the show was a monumental one from a casting perspective. The fourth series has added Oscar-winner Adrien Brody to the ensemble. There were no details released regarding Brody’s role, but creator/producer Steven Knight said he’s got a lot in store for the actor.

“He genuinely was the actor in my head when I wrote the part. I’m sure he will be a formidable presence in the world of the Peaky Blinders.”

Fans can also rejoice in knowing that Tom Hardy will return to Peaky Blinders in series four, reprising his role as Alfie Solomons. In the time since last season, Hardy teamed up with Steven Knight to bring Taboo to life.

Casting news is always exciting, but that’s not all fans were given today. BBC unveiled the first details of the new series, and it sounds like a terrific season is in store.

Season 4 will kick off when Tommy receives a mysterious letter on Christmas Eve and realizes the Peaky Blinders are in danger of annihilation. As the enemy closes in, he flees his country house and returns to the streets of Small Heath, Birmingham where a desperate fight for survival begins.

If you think this sounds awesome, you aren’t alone. Knight also spent a little time hyping up the new storyline;

“[Season 4] is the best yet And I’m loving it and it’s not like work, it’s not like a labor, I love doing it, and the boys are coming back and they’re loving the scripts.”

New episodes of Peaky Blinders are expected to begin airing sometime in the Fall of 2017.
