While he didn’t have anything in particular to do with the American comic book industry, folk music legend Pete Seeger died last night and has been near the top of all the social media “trending” lists ever since, weathering the breakup of Motley Crue, the State of the Union address and more. The singer/songwriter/activist/personality has impacted, directly or indirectly, the lives and works of generations of artists working in all corners of the American creative community, and throughout today, tributes poured in from everybody from The Wolverine director James Mangold to best-selling author Stephen King to rock icon Bruce Springsteen, whose introduction of Seeger at his 90th birthday concert four years ago has been circulating online all day.Dozens of comic book writers, artists and fans took to social media to express their grief over losing Seeger and memories of the father of American folk music; we’ve collected some of the responses here.

“Well, foo. I suppose we can take some solace that he had a long and productive life. According to family, he was out chopping firewood just last week (Go, Pete!) I know it’s the natural order but that doesn’t really help. Some passings leave you feeling robbed….RIP Pete. Maybe now you can learn where all the flowers have gone.”- Paul Smith; See more here.Below, see Seeger and Bruce Springsteen singing Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land” at the 2009 inauguration of President Obama.
