Pokemon GO players have a habit of wandering into places they really don’t belong to catch the adorable critters, but it would be hard to imagine that any would be brave enough to break into a prison just for a chance to catch a Pikachu.

That doesn’t mean you can’t catch one if you’re already inside, though, and according to an anonymous CO who is stationed on the famed Rikers Island Prison, the Pokemon are plentiful inside the walls (via Mass Appeal).

“So far, the only place I’ve seen the rare Pikachu is on Rikers,” explains the CO. “There’s an abundance of [them], both common and not so common on the island. I’ve caught a Weezing, two Tangela, and a Cubone.”

Nintendo and Niantic’s hit mobile title is popular amongst the police officers stationed at the prison, who just can’t ignore the rarer species that seem to populate within.

“I’ve spoken to a bunch of officers who play [it] and we talk about how many there are on the island,” he says. “Rikers is a Pokรฉmon goldmine.”

That said, officers have to keep things on the sly, as there are rules in place that forbid the use of smartphones within the facility. The rules don’t seem to be the biggest issue, though, as that would be the lack of GPS signal within the prison.

“Besides the cameras, the main thing stopping us from catching Pokรฉmon in the facility is that the GPS signal doesn’t register.”
