Marvel Studios has officially crowned Joe and Anthony Russo as the co-directors of Avengers: Infinity War Pt.1 and Pt. 2.
The co-directors were long-rumored as the studios’ favored choice for the two-part Avengers threequel. They will replace Joss Whedon, who directed 2012’s The Avengers and this spring’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

After impressing Marvel Studios with the critically lauded and record-breaking Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014, Joe and Anthony Russo were selected to also direct the third Captain America movie, Captain America: Civil War. Featuring Captain America, Iron Man, Black Panther, and more rumored superheroes, the film almost seemed like superhero ensemble warm-up for the directing duo. Indeed, when Marvel announced Infinity War back in late 2014, many assumed that Marvel would choose the brothers as directors.
Avengers: Infinity War Pt. 1 hits theaters on May 4, 2018, and Avengers: Infinity War Pt. 2 arrives on May 3, 2019.
