Every week, thousands of comics readers venture into their local store to scan the shelves for a new series to buy.

Readers have to choose from dozens of new series to buy; so it’s easy for a great, new comic to slip through the cracks.

Luckily, ComicBook.com is here to help with a handy guide for new series to check out each month. From the biggest new series in superheroics to an under the radar indie comic, here are seven new series you should definitely check out this September.

This month will feature three recommendations from the DC Comics, two for Image Comics, and one each of IDW and Oni Press — so some fairly big hitters.

What isn’t on the list is a release from Marvel. The company is still wrapping up its big Civil War event and are waiting to push out the next set of new series, and so without any No. 1’s coming from the publisher, almost by default, it was set aside for September.

Glitterbomb

The Team: Jim Zub, Djibril Morissette-Phan, K. Michael Russell, and Marshall Dillo

What’s It About: A supernatural tale of fame, failure and revenge, Glitterbomb stars a middle-aged actress that attracts a creature from beyond when her career starts to slow down. Unable to control the darkness inside of her, the actress is ready to tear out the heart out of Hollywood…literally.

Why We’re Excited: Glitterbomb looks to be writer Jim Zub’s darkest work to date. Although he’s never shied away from horror tropes in past work like Skullcrushers and Wayward, Glitterbomb looks straight up terrifying thanks to Djibril Morrisette-Phan’s freaky artwork. Glitterbomb could be the hot new horror comic out in time for the Halloween season.

When It’s Out: September 7th.

Doom Patrol

The Team: Gerard Way, Nick Derington

What’s It About: The newest reboot of DC’s most freakish superteam, this time written by My Chemical Romance lead singer andย Umbrella Academyย writer Gerard Way. A pair of EMTs discover a damaged Robotman, who leads them into a strange but familiar world.

Why We’re Excited:ย Doom Patrol is the first of DC’s new “Young Animal” imprint, a new imprint for mature readers curated by Gerard Way. The Young Animal imprint looks like an attempt to recapture the magic of early Vertigo Comics, back when creators like Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, and Grant Morrison left indelible marks on characters like Swamp Thing, Sandman, and the Doom Patrol. Way’s Umbrella Academy was one of the best comics series of the last 15 years, and we can’t wait to see what he does inside the DC sandbox.

When It’s Out: September 14th.

Seven to Eternity

The Team: Rick Remender, Jerome Opena, Matt Hollingsworthย

What’s It About: A dying knight in the fantasy realm of Zhal must choose between a desperate attempt to stop an evil god or accept the diety’s promise of giving him everything he’s ever desired.

Why We’re Excited: Rick Remender and Jerome Opena made magic with their dark take on Marvel’s merry mutants in the 2010 series Uncanny X-Force. Along with colorist extraordinaire Matt Hollingsworth, Remender and Opena are back together with a pretty interesting dark fantasy concept about a last ditch attempt to stop an oppressive god from enslaving an entire fantasy realm. Opena’s artwork should automatically make this a must by, but we’re pretty intrigued about what Remender will do in a world of guns, magic, and gods.

When It’s Out: September 21st.

Revolution

The Team: Cullen Bunn, John Barber, Fico Ossioย

What’s It About: It’s a war of epic proportions as IDW’s various Hasbro licenses collide. As the Transformers chase down Rom: Space-Knight for an alleged murder, the GI-Joes turn to M.A.S.K. for help saving the world.

Why We’re Excited: Revolution looks like a comic book version of the craziest storyline you had for your action figures growing up. After the success of Transformers vs. GI-Joe, we’re excited to see what IDW can do with the rest of their Hasbro licenses. Revolution marks the beginning of a unified “Hasbro Universe” similar to the one Paramount has planned for various Hasbro franchises.

When It’s Out: September 14th.

Supergirl

The Team: Steve Orlando, Brian Ching

What’s It About: DC’s Rebirth comes to Supergirl as Superman’s cousin settles into a new life as a member of the Danvers household. But Supergirl’s new life of juggling superheroics and a secret identity is threatened when she comes face to face with her father, the reimagined Cyborg Superman!

Why We’re Excited:ย The 2011 reboot was not kind to Supergirl, transforming her from an optimistic teen with a growing set of superhero friends to an angry somewhat hostile loner pining for Krypton. Outside of a brief stint as a Red Lantern, Supergirlย hasn’t had a chance to shine in years. Luckily, Supergirlย is now in the hands of Steve Orlando, one of DC’sย rising stars, and Brian Ching, whose early looks and designs look amazing. If you’re a fan of theย Supergirlย TV series, this comic book will definitely be for you.ย

When It’s Out: September 14th.

Trinity

The Team:ย Francis Manapul, Clay Mann

What’s It About:ย DC’sย Trinity is back together again for the first time. With a new/old Superman replacing the now dead Man of Steel, the newย Trinityย series explores the relationship between DC’sย three most important characters.ย

Why We’re Excited:ย Francis Manapulย is one of the best artists in superhero comics and he proved withย The Flashย that he’s more than capable of both writing and drawing a top-notch superhero book.ย We haven’t seen much about whatย Trinityย will be about, but it’s always interesting to see how DC defines the relationship between DC’sย three biggest characters.ย Trinityย has an extra wrinkle in that the “new” Superman is very familiar with a different Batman and Wonder Woman, while Wonder Woman is presumably still dealing with the loss of her recently deceased boyfriend, the “old” Superman.

When It’s Out: September 21st.

Night’s Dominion

The Team:ย Ted Naifeh

What’s It About: Aย mix of fantasy and superheroics,ย Night’s Dominionย tells the story of a barmaid who joins up with four strange characters to break into an ancient vault at the center of an ancient city.

Why We’re Excited:ย Ted Naifehย isย an underrated talentย who consistently creates characters full of life, excitement, and intrigue.ย Night’s Dominionย is Naifeh’s take on superheroes, albeit in the sort of strange fantasy world he’s so adept at crafting. Heist stories are always a ton of fun and we expect thatย Night’s Dominionย will live up to Naifeh’sย past work onย Courtney Crumrinย andย Princess Ugg.ย

When It’s Out: September 7th.
