On the heels of a weekend that put his name all over the headlines, superstar writer Mark Waid will join Eisner winner James Robinson teaming with artist Gabriele Dell’otto for “Family Business,” a new Spider-Man story coming in 2014 that centers around Peter Parker’s sister……Wait, what?USA Today has the news; the story will be an original graphic novel not unlike the one Warren Ellis is doing with The Avengers: Endless Wartime.”The format was as much of the appeal as the character was,” Waid told the newspaper. He also said that Dell’otto’s paints are “just gorgeous and give it dimension to the characters that I don’t think I’ve seen before.”The story revolves around The Kingpin, trying to aggressively expand his criminal empire, while Spider-Man is confronted with someone claiming to be his long-lost sister, Teresa.”The story is moving at such a breakneck speed that there’s not much of a chance to catch a breath,” Waid said. “He has every reason to be skeptical about who this woman is and who she says she is.”The writer told the newspaper that the story will be a super-spy story a la James Bond, and will bring to light new information about his CIA parents–something, of course, that we might see reflected in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, since it’s been hinted that direction is something the filmmaker is interested in exploring.”It seems very bizarre to him that Aunt May never mentioned anything about this woman, who’s about his age and the resemblance is there,” Waid said. “Peter wants to try to figure out what this mystery is all about but basically they’re running from a crime syndicate out to kill them both throughout the novel, so there’s not a whole lot of time for Spider-Man to sit and relax and slowly suss this out.”You can check out a trailer for the story, as well as a few painted preview pages, below.
