IDW Publishing has announced Star Mage, a new comic book series from novelist JC De La Torre (Ancient Rising). The coming-of-age tale follows Darien Connors, a young boy who discovers his heritage and certain powers that come with it, and ends up embroiled in war between two alien races of necromancers.”Star Mage is a sci-fi romp with a heart,” said series editor Tom Waltz. “Part Ender’s Game, part Last Starfighter… heck, even part Star Wars… Star Mage remains fresh and exciting, and will appeal to high-adventure readers of all ages!”The first issue will be drawn by Ray Dillon, with Franco Cespedes taking up art duties after that.”Star Mage has been a project I’ve passionately worked on for two years,” says JC De La Torre, “Teaming with the excellent folks at IDW has been a dream come true and I can’t tell you how excited I am to see us finally make our debut. With the beautiful artwork of Franco Cespedes and Ray Dillon and a story that fuses magic with spaceships, aliens and even mixes in social issues like bullying, I’m hopeful that not only will the fandom accept Star Mage as an impactful contribution to comic book history but grow to love the tale of Darien and his peculiar friends.”Star Mage #1 will be released in April.
