Leading the charge, as it has for several months, was Marvel Comics, who claimed 34.15% of the industry’s dollar share and 36.33% of its unit share. DC Comics wasn’t too far behind, however, closing the gap onย its main rival with a 30.91% dollar share and 36.33% unit share. Image Comics came in third, claiming 10.23 % of the market’s dollar share and 11.18% of its unit share.
The top-10 selling comics were almost an even split between Marvel’s Star Wars comics and DC’s crossover event, Convergence (the only exception was Batman #40, which came in at #4). Star Wars #4, by Jason Aaron and John Cassaday, took the top spot.
But regardless of where their allegiances lie, comic fans should celebrate the entire industry’s comparative growth. Compared to April 2014, comic sales grew 19.75% in dollar share and 22.50% in unit share. Expanding that comparison to year-to-date figures, comic sales for 2015 have grown 15.58% for dollar share and 16.22% for unit share, when compared to 2014.
