“I pitched it to McQuarrie and Doug,” Cruise told MTV. “We were there one night and I was like, ‘I’ve got an idea for it.’ … It could be so much fun.”
Cruise has also approached his co-star Emily Blunt about reprising her role as Sergeant Rita Vrataski (aka “Full Metal B*tch”, “The Angel of Verdun”), but she needs some time before she can commit to it.
“Gotta get Emily [Blunt],” Cruise added. “I was like, ‘Emily, please.’ She was like, ‘Give me another year, please.’”
The 2014 film was well received by critics and audiences, but its $178M production budget ate into its $370M worldwide box office gross–making a green light for a sequel a bit more challenging.
