Anthony Mackie, the Gangster Squad (written by Justice League scribe Will Beall) star who will co-star with Thor: The Dark World‘s Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje in The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete, has a lot of tenuous connections to the world of comic book movies. And one not so tenuous; he’s appearing in Captain America: The Winter Soldier–set to begin filming in the spring–as Captain America’s partner Sam Wilson, The Falcon. Now, Mackie has given some people the idea that he’ll be appearing in The Avengers 2, as well, answering a reporter’s question about prep for the mighty Marvel mega-sequel with a fairly straightforward answer. The Root (via CBM) quote Mackie saying in a Q&A that “I’ve actually become a gym rat again. But instead of getting bigger — because the Falcon was written as a man who was 6 foot 4 and 230 pounds; he was massive — mine is a different take on who he is, as opposed to being specific to the comic book, like all of the Marvel movies. You’ll definitely get your Falcon fix, and I will look amazing!”Nothing too revealing there, of course, excepting the fact that–and this is where CBM’s parsing of the story comes in–the answer came in response to a question asking what his workout regimen was for “the upcoming The Avengers 2 and Captain America sequel.” That Mackie didn’t correct the asker may not be enough to put him on a cast list, but certainly — and especially with all the speculation that runs rampant around the Marvel movies — enough to put the idea into fans’s minds.
