Supergirl fans may have been a bit disappointed yesterday that they didn't get their first look at Teen Wolf and Everybody Wants Some! actor Tyler Hoechlin in Superman's iconic costume (or the Supergirl universe's version of it anyway...but it was for a pretty good reason: the actor hasn't seen the costume yet himself.

The series isn't yet in production, and while that meant no trailer and no tease of Hoechlin in the Superman suit, the actor did join panelists at Comic Con International: San Diego, and speak with members of the press beforehand about the job.

He's met Brandon Routh, the star of 2006's Superman Returns and now The Atom on DC's Legends of Tomorrow -- and everybody we talked to in the CW/DC Universe want to meet him.

We only had a moment with Hoechlin on the press line for Supergirl yesterday, but we did try and worm some costume details out of him, and then talked to him about something he thinks makes Supergirl special and important.

We've already seen you don tight, red trunks in Everybody Wants Some!. What do you think about doing that again?

Yeah, yeah yeah. I've got a head start on that. A little bit less skin this time, I think.

Supergirl is such a bright, sunny version of the mythology compared to what's going on in the films. Does that change how you view the character? Obviously you can't just look at Henry and go, "That's the ticket!"

Yeah. I don't think you ever really want to do that anyway, to copy or emulate somebody. There's things you take from different performances from movies everywhere I think when you approach a character, but this one is a different tone for sure.

The thought hit me the other day: with everything going on in the world right now, it's so fantastic that we have a show like this that goes at it from an optimistic and hopeful point of view. It's a lot of fun, and Melissa's the best. I know her through Blake [Jenner] from Everybody Wants Some!, and she's so fantastic in the show. I can't wait to get to work.
