Black Manta isn’t someone who can forgive Aquaman, but defeating the Atlantean hero is rather difficult. So, it is a good thing Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is doing some intense training for his villainous role.

Over on Twitter, fans were given an inside-look at Abdul-Mateen’s work-outs for Black Manta. The actor posted a black-and-white photo of himself using rope for endurance training. Abdul-Mateen’s toned torso can be seen flexing in the image, and the actor also has his ripped arms out on display.

“Character work,” Abdul-Mateen captioned the photo.

There’s no telling whether the picture is a recent one or not. Aquaman is expected to wrap filming by the end of September, so Abdul-Mateen may be winding down his intensive exercises for Black Manta. The villain will be joined on-screen by characters like Mera, Atlanna, and Vulko. It’s clear Black Manta will need to be in top shape to take on Aquaman, and Momoa is no slacker when it comes to the gym. However, it might be Mera who gives the baddie a run for his money.

If you have kept up with Amber Heard’s Instagram, then you will know the actress trained intensely for Aquaman. The star posted photos and videos of her training sessions on-set, and Heard was seen doing all sorts of work. One video saw Heard going through fight choreography with two stuntmen, and the actress handled herself quite well against her opponents.

Abdul-Mateen will be very aware of what Heard – and Mera – can do. The pair were seen training together for Aquaman on social media. Heard shared photos of her working with the Black Manta actor on-set, so fans are hoping the pair will face off with one another when Aquaman drops next year.

If you’re ready to see Black Manta on the big screen, you will want to check out Justice League first. The film is set to debut in November, and it will house Jason Momoa’s debut into the DC Extended Universe as Arthur Curry.

Justice League currently has a 4.19 out of 5 ComicBook.com User Anticipation rating making it the third most anticipated upcoming comic book movie among ComicBook.com readers.
