It seems that Superman's arch-nemesis may be making his return in the Justice League movie after all.

Though Jesse Eisenberg was initially intended to reprise his role as the villain from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, recent reports have suggested that Lex Luthor's scenes had been removed from the current cut of Justice League.

However, the listing for Justice League on the official Warner Bros. website seems to suggest otherwise. Eisenberg's name is still listed as part of the film's cast, right between Willem Dafoe and Jeremy Irons.

There are a few possible reasons for this. One is that the cut that removed Lex Luthor from Justice League was not the final cut of the film, and that a more recent cut had restored Luthor's scenes. Another is that Luthor has been removed from the film and that the team in charge of running the Warner Bros. website haven't been updated on that fact just yet. A third possibility is a combination of the previous two, that Eisenberg has been removed from the film in its current cut but that Warner Bros. doesn't want to make his removal official until the editing process is complete.

Eisenberg did not appear in the Justice League trailer released at New York Comic Con yesterday. It would make sense that, if Luthor's inclusion in the film is uncertain, Warner Bros. would not want to publicize it in promotional materials. Fans may have to wait until the film opens in theaters to know if Luthor appears for sure.
