Photos and video have been released from the televised event, and it truly is a special moment for longtime fans of West, and his iconic character. Burt Ward, who played Robin alongside West, was also in attendance.

The Bat Signal shined brightly onto the side of Los Angeles City Hall on Spring Street, displaying the yellow emblem of Batman for all to see.

Fans showed up to the event to honor their fallen hero, dressed from head to toe in Batman garb. Many wore full Bat-suits and utility belts.

In addition to the ceremony, the West family encouraged fans to pay tribute to Adam in another way.

The family encouraged Adam’s “old chums” to make a donation to the Adam West Memorial Fund for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Idaho-based charity for children diagnosed with cancer and their families, Camp Rainbow Gold.

Adam West starred as Batman in the TV series from 1966-68, and still provided voice work for the character in recent animated films. He was also well-known for voicing the Mayor in Family Guy.
