The CW has released a new clip for ‘Deathstroke Returns’, tonight’s fifth episode of Arrow‘s sixth season.

The clip shows Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) meeting with Slade Wilson/Deathstroke (Manu Bennett), who has asked for help finding his son, Joe. But as he soon reveals, Joe doesn’t go by that name anymore – he goes by his mother’s maiden name, Kane.

Slade reveals the efforts he’s gone through to track Joe, with him ultimately joining the Australian Intelligence Service. After infiltrating an arms deal that quickly went south, Joe is now being held hostage in a foreign prison.

Oliver ponders what he can do to help, seeing as he no longer holds the mantle of Green Arrow. But as Slade explains, he needs diplomacy to help get Joe out of prison – something that Oliver would be able to provide as mayor.

This scene gives fans an indication of what to expect with Slade and Oliver’s hunt for Joe – and also reveals a bit of Deathstroke‘s comic family tree.

In the comics, Slade had an ex-wife named Adeline Kane Wilson, who he met in the US Army. Adeline was actually responsible for Slade losing his eye, shooting him with a gun after he nearly killed their son Joe. The pair divorced, with Adeline raising Joe while also forming Searchers, Inc.. She had several other run-ins with Slade in the years since, with Slade saving her life with a blood transfusion.

As Adeline later learned, the transfusion gave her similar superhero abilities to Slade. She got into a conflict with Slade (while she was dressed as the female version of Vigilante), and was shot and presumed dead, until she learned she had the ability of immortality. She came back from the dead, founding a new version of H.I.V.E. which focused on killing metahumans. She eventually was killed in an attack by Vandal Savage.

It’s unknown exactly what of Adeline’s DC Comics history will play into Slade and Joe’s storylines in tonight’s episode. Arrow fans will just have to stay tuned to find out.

Arrow airs Thursdays at 9/8c on The CW.
