Arrow has never been shy about alluding to Green Lanterns before, whether it's the mentioning of Coast City, references to Hal Jordan, or the recent casting of Carly Pope as Coast City reporter Susan Williams. While they love to tease it, fans shouldn't expect any actual Green Lanterns to show up in season 5.

Arrow executive producer Wendy Mericle was recently asked about the possibility of a Green Lantern introduction to the Arrowverse (via CBR), but unfortunately, the news on that front doesn't look good.

"One of the fun parts of the show is that you can put these characters in and the Easter eggs and the fans that know this universe so well respond to it on varying levels of excitement and whatnot, but the thing about her character that's so intriguing is that it operates on that level. It also operates because she's someone who's very intrigued by Oliver, who's going to uncover some secrets that Oliver has, which is going to be really fun, and is a fun nod to the Green Lantern, who obviously we could never bring on the show."

That makes sense in some ways, as Warner Bros. already has a Green Lantern Corp movie in development, and the current status of the character is still in recovery mode somewhat after the last film. Still, that doesn't mean it won't happen down the line, as it was brought to her attention that when the show started, no one could have foreseen a four show dimension merging crossover either, and that's happening later this season.

"This is 100% true! I mean, really Season 6 and on, all bets are off, right?"

While Green Lantern is a possibility for the future, for the moment Oliver and his ragtag team will have their hands full with Tobias Church in next week's "Human Target" episode. You can read the official description for the episode below.

When Tobias Church captures and tortures one of Oliver's new recruits, Oliver must turn to an old friend, Christopher Chance AKA the Human Target, for help. Meanwhile, Felicity's worlds collide when Detective Malone joins the ACU.

Arrow stars Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen), Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak), David Ramsey (John Diggle), Echo Kellum (Curtis Holt), and Paul Blackthorne (Quentin Lance).

Arrow airs on The CW Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
