Fans don't have to wait long for Jerome's inevitable return from the dead, as evidenced by the latest episode of Gotham. But when he comes back, the regeneration process will have given him a look some comic fans might find familiar.
Some new photos of the maybe-kinda-future Joker have popped up over on TV Insider, revealing Cameron Monaghan's radical effects makeup for when the character returns to screens.
"I really can't wait for people to see it," Monaghan said. "We have a few different looks…it looks really great. Our make-up special effects designer Mike Maddi did a phenomenal job."
Hugo Strange made himself a menace to Gotham City, using twisted technology and medicine to raise people from the dead. Jerome made a message of Strange's madness, preaching anarchy to the citizens of Gotham and maybe turning into a cultist leader along the way.
Now those anarchists have retrieved his body and maybe the means to bring him back. We'll find out how it happens, hopefully before Gotham's finale, but until then we can look at these pictures and shudder.
The look is similar to that of the Joker's appearance in the New 52 comic storyline, the Death of the Family. DC Comics capitalized on that fan-favorite appearance, producing masks packaged with the collections that were a staple of cosplayers around the world.
Jerome's look seems to be inspired by that while remaining slightly less grotesque. It's still a chilling visual, and one the Gotham effects team have knocked out of the park.
