Justice League included several cameos from DC Comics characters, but there was one that fans were anticipating more than others. Now it turns out that Zack Snyder may have dropped a major hint about it a year ago.

Spoilers for Justice League below!

When Justice League debuted last week, audiences caught a brief cameo from a member of the Green Lantern Corps. The glowing, alien-like Lantern appears in the DC Extended Universe film's "History Lesson," where it is shown teaming up with the Amazons, Atlanteans, and humans in the battle against Steppenwolf (Ciran Hinds) during his first attempt to invade Earth. The Lantern, later identified by fans as Yalan Gur, dies in Justice League, his ring flying off to find a new bearer.

While fans were excited to see the appearance of Green Lanterns in the DCEU, it turns out that Snyder had actually hinted about not just the appearance of a Green Lantern in Justice League, but specifically that it would be an unusual one over a year ago. In an interview with Collider, Snyder talked about his working relationship with DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns and had some very interesting things to say about Green Lanterns.

"Geoff and I have had a great working relationship, even on Batman v Superman, and on Wonder Woman we worked together really closely, and we have a project coming up that we want to do together... I can't really talk about that," Snyder said. "His knowledge of comics is just crazy. He's like an encyclopedia of comic books. Like I'll be like, 'Hey, is there a weird Lantern from --?' and he'll be like, 'You know...!' He's just amazing about keeping everything in canon that I've not even heard of -- he goes, 'Yeah, it's back!' Like we'll look through some archive. You know, there's DC-pedia, but he's even crazier than that."

While in context of the timing of the interview -- it was during a visit to the set of Justice League in London last year -- the bit about unusual Green Lanterns simply seemed like a throwaway example of how deep Johns' knowledge goes. However, with the Lantern from Justice League being identified as a "weird Lantern," Yalan Gur, turns out that comment was a lot more significant, making us wonder what else Snyder has teased that was right under our noses the whole time.

Justice League is now playing in theaters. The film will be followed in the DC Extended Universe by Aquaman on December 21, 2018, Wonder Woman 2 on November 1, 2019, Shazam on April 5, 2019, Cyborg in 2020, and Green Lantern Corps in 2020.
