The episode opens with Malcolm Merlyn in his apartment in 2016 Star City. He watches a news report about Damien Darhk’s death. Just then, Darhk and Eobard Thawne speed into the apartment, and promise they have a way to reverse Malcolm’s fate.

In the present day, the Legion of Doom argue about their tactics to find the Spear of Destiny. Malcolm suggests using hypnosis to get Rip to cooperate. Darhk questions how they can get the Medallion from the Legends, but Thawne explains that the Legends aren’t smart enough to keep it.

In the Waverider, the Legends also argue about their plans with the Medallion. Sara suggests the team use it as leverage, and they set a course for Central City, 2017.

Malcolm returns to the Legion of Doom and reveals that his hypnosis didn’t work on Rip because his past memories are gone. Eobard gets frustrated and speeds off.

Darhk sharpens a pair of knives, preparing to torture Rip Hunter. Darhk monologues about feeling threatened by Thawne, and insists Rip cooperate to help Darhk restore his leverage in the Legion of Doom. He threatens to cut out one of Rip’s eyes, and ultimately succeeds at pulling out his tooth.

Darhk shows the tooth to the Legion of Doom, who discover markings on the tooth. The markings lead to a security box in Switzerland, which the team believes holds the rest of the Spear of Destiny. Thawne instructs Merlyn and Darhk to take the Time Sphere to where Rip last used the safe in 2025.

In 2017, Stein and Jax enter Jitters. They run into Lily, Stein’s daughter. Stein explains that they need Lily’s help with researching the medallion. Lily inspects it with a device, and accidentally causes it to project a map onto Jitters. Stein and Jax take Lily onto the Waverider.

Darhk and Merlyn argue about their tactics for getting to Rip’s safe. Darhk suggests killing everyone at the bank, while Merlyn believes they should be more subtle, and possibly use Rip in their plan.

The Legends argue about Stein showing Lily the Waverider. Sara believes doing so is going to only cause more aberrations, but ultimately agrees to let Lily keep helping the team with the medallion.

Merlyn dresses Rip in a suit and instructs him in his plan. They travel to 2025, Zurich, Switzerland. They give Rip a communication device and instruct him in how to open his safe. Darhk adds that if Rip doesn’t follow their instruction, he will die.

While Rip asks for the box, Darhk and Merlyn discuss Thawne’s involvement in the group. They question why he is using the two of them, and decide to prove to him that they are equals.

The Legends review photos of all of their known speedsters. They try to determine why the speedster wants the Spear of Destiny, and what in reality he is trying to fix.

Rip is taken to the safe and needs to give a retnal scan, but fails. He then is asked to speak an access code, which is he does not remember. Merlyn and Darhk intervene, shooting down the bank teller. Darhk wants to kill Rip, but is preoccupied by security arriving on the scene. Merlyn and Darhk fight the guards while Rip hides.

The three casually leave the scene.

In the Waverider, Lily and Ray plug the Medallion into Gideon’s main console. It temporarily shuts down Gideon’s systems, but she is able to start scanning the medallion.

Lily and Ray pour champagne to celebrate. They are joined by Mick, who makes a snide remark about Lily being ‘fake.’ Lily asks why the Legends have looked at her weirdly, and Mick tells her she is a time aberration.

Merlyn and Darhk tie Rip back into his torture chair. The pair argue about each other’s backstories, and Merlyn challenges Darhk to a League of Assassins-style sword fight.

Lily confronts Stein and asks him about her being a time aberration. Lily realizes what happened, but Stein assures that he still loves her. Stein questions which of their realities are really “real.” Lily gets upset and walks away.

Merlyn and Darhk fight, while Rip watches. Rip points out that the pair fighting is exactly what Thawne wants. Merlyn suggests that the two of them need to work together to outsmart Thawne’s plan.

Jax confronts Stein, saying that he’s sensed something different in their shared brain. Stein explains that he made a mistake by bringing Lily onboard The Waverider. Jax suggests that Stein just make clear to Lily that he loves her. Stein explains that his own father wasn’t kind, and Stein and Clarissa initially didn’t have children because they were afraid of history repeating itself.

Nate, Amaya, and Sara question why the speedster wants the Spear of Destiny. Nate suggests that the speedster was erased from existance. Stein explains that while Eddie Thawne dying erased Thawne from history, he was preserved by the Speed Force.

Merlyn and Darhk enter Rip’s safe, having overridden the passcode.

Rip breaks out of his restraints, only for Thawne for come back and restrain him again. Rip tells Thawne where the pair have headed.

Merlyn and Darhk get out Rip’s safety deposit box. Inside of it is a piece of future technology that stores Rip’s memories.

Nate realizes that Thawne might be using the Spear to help avoid time catching up with him and erasing him from existence. The team suggests they capture Thawne in one place in time, with hope that he will eventually cease to exist.

The Legion of Doom argue inside the safe. Merlyn and Darhk confront Thawne, asking him what his motivations are to begin with.

Thawne gets frustrated with the pair keeping him inside the safe. He insists that if he is not able to be let out of the safe, he will be pursued by another speedster. It’s Black Flash – formerly known Hunter Zolomon/Zoom.

Merlyn and Darhk agree to let Thawne out of the safe, if he promises to treat the pair equally. He reluctantly agrees. They suggest that he stop using his speed force so that Black Flash will not be drawn to him.

Thawne stands still in the center of the bank. Black Flash arrives, creeping around to find Thawne. Black Flash gets right in front of Thawne’s face, only for Merlyn to shoot an arrow at him to distract him. Thawne speed punches Black Flash, and locks him inside the safe. He says Black Flash will not be held for long, and the trio needs to escape.

Lily asks Gideon to take her back to 2017. Gideon says that Stein instructed her not to allow Lily to leave the ship. Stein walks in and apologizes for not telling Lily about the nature of her existence. Stein explains that even though he didn’t want children, he now knows he needed Lily in his life. Lily asks for them to not keep secrets from each other, and Stein tells her about him being half of Firestorm. Lily doesn’t believe him, and says she needs to get back home.

Thawne studies Rip’s memory holder, saying he needs to upload the memories into a brain. He suggests that they can load it back into Rip, but with a few changes.

In 1776, Rip appears as a fighter of the Revolutionary War. He walks inside a tent and points a gun at George Washington.
