In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, the fall preview for The Flash provides a new look at how Barry will appear when he emerges from the Speed Force, beard and all.
Grant Gustin debuted his The Flash beard in the show's most recent trailer, which showed the character emerging from the Speed Force disoriented and unsure of who he is.
That will not last long, as the Speed Force may have disoriented Barry, but it also bestowed him with some wisdom that will helm him keep life in perspective in the coming season.
"He's going to have kind of an awakening when he comes out," series star Grant Gustin told ComicBook.com. "He's going to have some knowledge that he probably doesn't even quite understand yet. He'll also be little scrambled; He won't really be himself the first time we see him."
That said, he will evolve in a very positive way once he gets past it.
"Now it's season 4 and he's really become The Flash in the comic books, the one who really is in full mastery of his skills and has the emotional maturity that he has in the comics," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told EW.
That beard by the way? We speculated that it could be an indication that he has been busy with a trip to another universe during his time in the Speed Force, which would be consistent with a story from the comics that saw a version of Barry deeply disoriented after his apparent death in the Speed Force.
And what are those figures Bearded Barry is writing on the walls...?
The Flash returns on Tuesday, October 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, prior to the premiere of DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
