Eight is Enough veteran Betty Buckley has joined the cast of Supergirl in the role of Patricia Arias, the adoptive mother of Samantha/Reign, the season’s big bad.
The Broadway legend apparently has some deep, dark secrets that will bind her to her previously estranged daughter as the single mom played by Odette Annable begins her evolution into supervillainy.

“Their relationship is made all the more complex by the secrets Patricia holds,” according to TV Insider, who debuted the news.
It seems likely that Patricia’s secrets relate to Samantha’s origins: at the end of Season Two, fans saw an infant shot away from Krypton by members of a hooded cult. It appears as though Sam is that baby.
In the comics, Reign was not a typical Kryptonian but a “worldkiller” who had a secretive past rooted on Krypton.
Buckley is set to make her first appearance in “Wake Up,” the third season’s seventh episode and the last one before the “Crisis on Earth-X” crossover.
Supergirl returns to The CW on Monday, October 9th, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
