Earlier today, we talked about what we’d like to see in The Flash‘s upcoming theatrical movie.

That’s because I’m an idiot. I meant to do this article, and got carried away musing on the whole movie thing.
But here we are, talking about something that’s coming a lot sooner: The Flash, Season Three on The CW, which debuts in October.
So what do we hope to see coming out of this year on (TV’s) The Flash? Read on…!

THE STORY OF SPEED
Speed — and the Speed Force — has its own history and mythology in DC Comics, and it’s something that The Flash has barely even begun to scratch the surface of.
That’s been fine so far, since the threats didn’t really demand it, but if Savitar is anything like his comics counterpart, he manages to make himself a threat by getting to know speed better than anybody ever has before.
We saw a little bit of what some expertise with the use of speed can do last year with Zoom. But that wasn’t his main thing. With Savitar, it’s his main thing — and that could be REALLY interesting.
THE ROGUES
With Mirror Master and Dr. Alchemy coming to the show, we want to see another take on The Rogues. What we’ve seen in the past wasn’t bad at all, but if we take way Captain Cold and Heat Wave — who drew a lot of focus during the previous Rogues stories — it changes the face of the group entirely. And with those two on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, I’m assuming that they’ll be mostly off the table here (although who knows, really?).
In any event, everyone loves team-ups. How can you not? And there are a lot of really cool actors playing some of The Flash’s best baddies. Let’s get them together.
SURPRISES
So far, The Flash has established itself as a show where a big chunk of the story is driven by mystery — but the mysteries themselves have been a little flat.
The writing has been able to carry off making “Jay is Zoom!” and “Wells is Reverse-Flash!” seem like cool reveals, but at the start of each season, fans have pretty much immediately guessed what was going on.
So…yeah. That’s an area where the writers can up their game. Let’s, just maybe, NOT make Tom Felton into Dr. Alchemy. Let’s go for something that makes audiences feel like they see the obvious answer, only to have that confidence pulled out from under them when the reveal actually happens. I think people would be really pleased with that. I know I would.
SPEED FORCE
No, not THE Speed Force, as in the mystical field from which Barry and other speedsters draw all their powers. I want to see Speed Force, the name occasionally used for groups of speedsters that surround The Flash.
Most recently, Wally West and his kids appeared in Convergence: Speed Force — and that’s part of it. I’d really like to see Wally West do more than just be the substitute for episodes when Barry isn’t Flash.Seeing both Wally and Jesse Quick — maybe even some unexpected speedsters in time travel or flashback stories, given Savitar’s backstory.
I know there are a lot of people who worry about flooding the show with speedsters that make Barry seem redundant in his own story, but comics have shown, time and time again, that’s not true.
“If everyone has the same powers as him, why is he special? Why is he The Flash?” The Flash: Rebirth writer Joshua Williamson recently said in an interview. “Why is he the one that should be leading them? Why is he the expert on this? What if the other ones got better than him? What if they are better? There might be people in the group that just happen to do a better job than him. He has to think of that as well. I had to basically put that question into the book. What makes Barry special? To me, powers don’t make Barry a hero, Barry is a hero, with our without those powers he’s going to do everything he can and I think that’s what separates him from the rest.”
THE GREATEST HITS
One of the problems of success is that you start to build up a list of things that fans want you to revisit — and The Flash has had plenty of success.
Everyone wants to see more of Grodd. Everyone wants to see the crossover episodes. Everyone wants to see Earth-2. Everyone wants to see Mark Hamill’s Trickster.
And yeah, that’s kind of uninspired to ask for, but…more of that, please.
