With the musical crossover between Supergirl and The Flash just a few weeks away, fans are wondering just how the ambitious episode will come to fruition. And as was recently revealed, The Flash‘s leading lady will factor heavily into the episode itself.
Aaron Helbing, one of The Flash‘s executive producers, revealed to TVLine that Iris West (Candice Patton) will have a significant role in the musical crossover.

“She plays a pretty key role in the musical episode.” Helbing reveals. “The story really centers around Iris. Aside from Barry (Grant Gustin) and Kara (Melissa Benoist), Iris plays a huge role in the musical.”
A likely assumption with this is that the episode’s plot will revolve around Iris somehow being kidnapped by the crossover’s villain, Music Meister (played by Glee’s Darren Criss). This would be thematically similar to the Music Meister’s debut in Batman: The Brave & The Bold, in which the villain sets his sights on Black Canary and kidnaps her. Adapting this to The Flash by focusing on one half of the show’s core romantic relationship – which took a big step in tonight’s episode – would be an easy nod to that original plot without over-complicating things.
Looking at the songs that have been announced for the crossover episode, Iris’ involvement in the plot is a no-brainer. A song called ‘Running to Find You’ was penned for the episode by the La La Land writing duo of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who recently won an Academy Award for their song ‘City of Stars.’ This song will reportedly be sung by Gustin, and many fans have assumed that it will be some sort of love song, sung either to or about Iris.
Even though she will be a core part of the plot, Patton has not been listed as one of the cast members who will be singing in the episode. Those honors will go to her The Flash co-stars Grant Gustin (Barry Allen/The Flash), Jesse L. Martin (Detective Joe West), and Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon/Vibe), as well as Melissa Benoist (Kara Danvers/Supergirl), Jeremy Jordan (Winn Schott), Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow‘ John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn) and Legends‘ Victor Garber (Martin Stein).
The crossover, which concludes with The Flash’s ‘Duet‘, will air on March 20th and 21st.
