DC’s Suicide Squad brought a number of lower tier characters into the film spotlight, including the creator of the group Amanda Waller.

Waller’s most potent attribute is her constant committal to getting the job done, no matter what the cost. Waller lets nothing stand in between her and her goal, and Actress Viola Davis recently spoke to Variety about her time as the character.
“I loved it,” Davis says. “And I think I loved it because I didn’t think that deeply about it. I just thought it was fun. What was fun to me about Amanda Waller โ who is heavy, pearls, afro โ she has no superhuman strength, but absolutely just puts fear into the hearts of all these villains. That appeals to me greatly. There’s something about her for me that was familiar. I was working out the bad girl, but from a space that, for me, is based somewhat in reality. I liked playing with that power. It’s something so often not given to women, that kind of unapologetic badassery.”
Hopefully, this means that Davis will return in the Waller role for the eventual sequel, which is currently in the development stages. Fans might also see her pop up in Justice League, but nothing has been confirmed yet in that regard.
Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
Written and directed by David Ayer, the film starred Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis. The cast also included Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, Cara Delevingne, Adam Beach, and Karen Fukuhara in her feature film debut.
