With an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score and an overwhelming amount of anticipation from fans, many are expected to be raving about Wonder Woman when it debuts in theaters this weekend.
One group that is already raving is the people of Israel, which is the home country of Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot. It's safe to assume that Gadot is the biggest star to come out of the country, with other celebrities including supermodel Bar Refaeli and Man of Steel actress Ayelet Zurer.
"With all due respect to Bar Refaeli," explained Gal Uchovsky, a columnist for the Israeli news site Mako, "no one has reached [Gadot's] level on the world stage. Not to mention, she can act. She's bringing us lots of 'Nachat (pride and joy). People here are really excited."
This pride and joy towards Gadot was displayed in a pretty significant way earlier this week. The Azrieli Towers - the country's tallest skyscrapers, lit up with the phrases "We are proud of you, Gal Gadot" and "Our Wonder Woman."
"That's never been done before," revealed reporter Amit Cotler. "Israel's love affair with Gal Gadot is reaching fever pitch right now."
Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, Princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that's raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.
Wonder Woman is directed by Patty Jenkins, from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg & Geoff Johns, story by Heinberg & Zack Snyder and Jason Fuchs, and stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis, Saïd Taghmaoui, Ewen Bremner and David Thewlis.
Wonder Woman opens in theaters June 2, 2017.
