Wonder Woman cannot be stopped. This weekend, the DC heroine stepped back into theaters following her DCEU debut in Batman v Superman. Gal Gadot came back to reprise her role as Diana, and the film has been universally praised by critics and fans alike. With Wonder Woman breaking down box office records, it’s only a matter of time until Warner Bros. okays a sequel. And, now, the film’s director is saying where the second film will inevitably take place.

Thanks to a new report by Entertainment Weekly, fans have learned that Patty Jenkins has a specific vision for Wonder Woman 2. In a previous interview with the site, the director admitted a sequel would have to take place in America.
“The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right,” she confessed. “She’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time.”
So far, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment have kept quiet about Wonder Woman‘s future. There’s no guarantee that the film will get a sequel, but it would be smart to bet your money on such a thing happening. In its opening weekend, Wonder Woman has already smashed box office expectations. The film’s first domestic weekend saw it rake in $100 million, and Wonder Woman is expected to double that number for its international opening. In the U.S., Wonder Woman‘s opening also broke the record which Iron Man set years ago. The Marvel movie opened to about $96 million, a record which Wonder Woman has now dominated.
If Warner Bros. has any sense, the studio will confirm its order of a Wonder Woman sequel soon. Recently, fans learned that both Jenkins and Gadot were contracted to pursue a sequel should Warner Bros. ask. There is no telling when Wonder Woman 2 might fit into the studio’s schedule given its extensive lineup for films like Aquaman and The Flash. But, so long as the gods will it, Wonder Woman will shine a light back on Themyscira’s Amazons in theaters sooner rather than later.

Though she had a popular television series in the 1970s starring Lynda Carter, the Wonder Woman movie will be the character’s first time headlining a film.
