UPDATE: We misidentified the heroine in the prequel series as Max. Fortunately, we have a time travel doohickey that allows us to go back and fix mistakes. BOOM.)

One of the more original titles to come out from Square Enix was Life Is Strange, telling the compelling story of a young girl who found herself with the ability to rewind time – but one that came up with a price. The first game was truly appreciated, and that prompted the publisher to return to the story with an all-new follow-up, which was revealed today during Microsoft's E3 press conference.

Life Is Strange: Before the Storm is a three-episode prequel, following the mysterious Chloe as she takes on an all-new episodic adventure, which looks to be very familiar in style to the original game. And it sounds like some characters and locales will be making a return the second time around, including Rachel, who you obviously may remember from the original. (You can tell in the game's trailer, when you hear Max calling for her.)

Not much is known about the gameplay for Life Is Strange: Before the Storm, but it looks to have similar aspects to the original game, as you'll likely be solving puzzles again and possibly using Chloe's abilities this time around -- which will hopefully have a time travel-esque hook.

The game will be developed by Dontnod Entertainment (the developers of the original game), and it looks to be a promising follow-up, providing more backstory in what's happening with Chloe and other characters within the story -- and possibly more regarding these powers. Now, it's just a matter of seeing how it ties in with the original game – and how certain characters may be affected by your actions.

We'll have more details on this game in the months ahead – but, man, it's great to have Life Is Strange back. This was a great sleeper hit when it came out a while back, providing storytelling that we aren't used to seeing in this sort of release, and Before the Storm will provide more of the same.

Look for the first episode of Life Is Strange: Before the Storm on Xbox consoles, as well as possibly PlayStation 4 and PC, starting August 31st.
