Sony had an amazing showcase during its pre-E3 press conference tonight, including new clips of Destiny 2, God of War, Call of Duty: WWII and more. But it closed out the night with a bang, debuting a new trailer for Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man that really blew us away. (You can see it above in case you missed it.)

In the new trailer, Spidey finds his hands full when he has to rescue hostages and stop a battle between two rival gangs โ while having to deal with members from each gang โ before doing battle with a resurfacing villain and having to save the city from what resembles a large wrecking ball. All in the name of being a superhero, we guess โ right?
But the trailer flew by like a blur, and with that, you might have missed a few things that really make this Spider-Man game stand out from the others. Let’s break down some of the cooler aspects that you might have missed the first time around.
Say Hello (Again) To Miles Morales

Even though it’s Peter Parker in the suit, we weren’t seeing things when we saw that Miles Morales is included in the trailer. Could he be playing a part in the game? After all, he initially dawned the suit in August 2011, so he could very well play a part somewhere down the road. Insomniac isn’t saying yet, but, man do we want some answers.
Perhaps Peter and Miles could be in for a little competition.ย The team did note that there were “many Easter Eggs to be found.” You don’t think…the Black Suit?!
Spideyโs Got A Lot Of Webbing Capability

Considering Peter Parker’sย prowess with his web abilities, it shouldn’t be a surprise that he’ll have a lot of different ways to web enemies up, thanks to a targeting system that makes it easy to pinpoint both enemies and items in the environment. (More on that in a second.) But it appears that he can also lay traps, as he can use a web grenade โ similar to the one in Homecoming โ which can ensnare an opponent and trap them, getting them out of the way. This could be ideal if you’re going for a stealth approach in a stage, or need to “clear things out” before you move on to whatever comes next.
The Environment Is Open To Experimentation

Insomniac Games could’ve easily been content with just utilizing a combat system that worked well in prior Spider-Man games, most notably the highly appreciated Shattered Dimensions. Instead, though, your targeting system enables you to target foes and objects in the environment. For instance, in the trailer, you’re able to take down three gang members in one shot by grappling onto a steel beam and swinging it around, knocking them down in the process and giving you just enough time to web them up before they can do further harm. The game will be chock full of opportunities like these, so keep an eye out.
The Combat System Has Shades Of The Batman: Arkham Series

When taking on enemies, we noticed a little something โ your Spider-Sense coming into play. When a foe seems ready to strike you, he’ll be glowing red. This will give you the opportunity to roll out of the way and set up a counter-attack. If that sounds familiar, that’s because it seems like a variation of the combat system in WB’s Batman: Arkham games, where you get like a second’s notice before an enemy hits you so you can react and counter-attack properly. Of course, Spider-Man‘s combat system looks a lot smoother, so to see it in action โ especially against bosses โ is really something.
Thereโs Usage Of Quick-Time Events, But Not An Abundant Amount

You may notice in the trailer that there are certain segments that come up where you have to press a button at the right time to execute something properly, like grappling onto a crane to keep it from falling, or running along and jumping at just the right time. Fans of games like Dragon’s Lair and Shenmue may recognize these as quick-time events, where you may have to start over again if you miss the button press. This hasn’t been confirmed yet by Insomniac, but hopefully we’ll see something where we can just restart it and get it right. There doesn’t appear to be too many of these in the game, just enough to tie the action together so you can get back to fighting. Which we’re cool with.
BONUS: Who Was That Villain?

With the debut of a new Spider-Man trailer, some fans were wondering if we would see the Green Goblin or Venom โ staples in the ongoing comic books. But instead, we were treated to something new, and fans were trying to figure it who it was.
Real fans may recall that it was, in fact, Martin Li, or Mister Negative, who was a member of the Snakeheads gang in China, and underwent experimentation that gave him a new style of existence that some may consider superhuman. You can definitely get a glimpse of that in the trailer.
Now, he’s not the only bad guy in the game, and with its huge production value, it’s a safe bet that a rogue’s gallery will be descending upon Spidey’s territory soon enough โ and that could well include Green Goblin and Venom. We’ll see what Insomniac has up its sleeves when the game arrives next year for PlayStation 4!
