Hollywood has tried to dabble with esports-related comedy in the past (example: whatever the heck Noobz was supposed to be), but it didn’t quite get the impact it was hoping for. Luckily, the forthcoming YouTube Red comedy Good Game has a far better chance going for it – mainly due to Dan Harmon.

The man behind the classic series Community and the co-creator of the rampantly funny Rick and Morty is executive producing the new comedy series, which will make its premiere on August 30th. The show was developed and co-created by esports personalities Jesse Cox and Michele Morrow (who also produce), and will also feature the stars from the Game Grumps YouTube channel, Dan Avidan and Arin Hanson.
The synopsis for the show is as follows:
“In this YouTube Red Original Series, an eternal optimist (Dan Avidan) and a miserable slacker (Arin Hanson) recruit a team of misfits to take on the esports establishment by competing for a spot in the biggest KILLCORE tournament of the year— BLOOD MATCH.”
The show looks to be a lot of fun, and, heads up, Terry Crews fans – he’ll be appearing in the show as an over the top “shoutcaster”. Can you say, “EXPLOSION!”?
With the Game Grumps having nearly four million subscribers – and some good talent on board between Morrow, Cox and Harmon – there’s a good chance this could be a big hit with both streamers and the esports community. We’ll find out in just a few short weeks!
