A recent announcement from the creators of Friday the 13th: The Game gave a sneak peek at tons of new content as well as the patch notes for the next big update.

While patch notes for the IllFonic and Gun Media’s game have come from extensions of the game like a Steam page, official Facebook profile, or through Reddit in the past, it appears that the notes will now be consistently found through the game’s revamped website. Announcement will still likely come through social media channels but the new section of the site guarantees that new patch details will always be found in at least one spot.
There’s not yet a date on when the patch will release, the notes and extra details give players a preview of what to expect.
Each Platform Will Get the Patch at the Same Time
Through the game’s Steam page, an additional detail not listed on the official site confirms that each version ofย Friday the 13th: The Gameย will receive the next patch at the same time.
For those who have kept up with the horror game for a while, especially those who own the Xboxย One version, you’ll know that patches haven’t always hit each one of theย game’s versions at the same time. PC typically comes first, PlayStation 4 gets it second, and Xboxย One receives it last due to stricter certification methods.
According to the confirmation, whenever the patch is released, everyone will have it.
“Finally, we’d like to list off the upcoming patch notes for our patch that will go live to all three platforms at the same time,” the announcement reads. “The date isn’t set just yet, but we’re in cert right now and as soon as we have confirmation we’ll launch this patch for Steam, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 to all players.”
Big Takeaways from the Next Patch
Like patch notes for any game, the changes listed on the game’s website are pretty extensive, and most of the time, you’ll have to keep yourself up to speed on what’s happening in-game to know why the changes are necessary.
The full patch notes are listed here as well, but if you want the quick-and-dirty version of what to expect from this patch, here are the biggest things to look forward to:
- Smaller mapsย โย three smaller maps, one for each of the existing maps, are being added. The old maps are staying put though, giving you six playable versions in total.
- More ways to killย โ the density of environmental kills has been increased across all the maps, so if you catch a Counselor in the open, check for a stump or another crafty weapon nearby.
- Goodbye, team killingย โ Team killing is officially out in this update, at least in public matches. Cars still hurt though, so watch out for those.
- No more superblocking for Jasonย โย With this next patch, Jason won’t be able to block through firecrackers, flare guns, or other projectile attacks any more.
- Perk fixes for spawning with itemsย โ Plenty of perks that let players spawn with items weren’t doing thier job, but they should with the next patch.
- Bugfixes, bugfixes, bugfixesย โ Across all patch notes categories, numerous bugfixesย have been made to smooth out gameplay.
Stability and Matchmaking Fixes
Stability
- Overall stability should be drastically improved due to a number of crash fixes and a major memory leak fix.
Parties/Invites/Matchmaking
Disallowing party leaders to join game session invites to sessions that do not advertise (private matches). This is due to not being able to search for sessions that do not advertise, which prevents party members from following their leader into them.
Party leaders can now follow public game invites, bringing members with them.
Steam Matchmaking tries harder to find lower-pinging matches. PS4 matchmaking up to 6x more efficient with tighter ping requirements.
Fixed XB1 matchmaking bugs.
Fixed a number of issues with how the game handles Party Invites and Matchmaking; there are still a few issues out there that are rare but it is much improved.
Fixed a number of issues on how canceling matchmaking was handled that could leave players in a state they could no longer matchmake.
Party members now see their party leader’s matchmaking status and time.\
Various improvements to error messaging.
Smaller Maps and More Kill Locations
Maps
Added Small Maps for the existing maps; Packanack Small, Higgins Haven Small, and Camp Crystal Lake Small.
Increased the density of Kill locations on all maps.
Adjusted collision on Maps to prevent people from standing on water.
Adjusted collision on piers to prevent cars from driving on them .
Added a Map Icon to Campfire Kills.
Fixed a number of kill spots that were not functioning.
Fixed an issue with not being able to fix boat propellers based on boat positioning on the dock.
Placed collision under piers to prevent people from swimming under them.
Fixed a number of areas that the player could get out of the map.
Fixed a number of areas that Counselors could get to that Jason could not.
Added better collision around Boat Exits to prevent Jason from getting to areas he shouldn’t be in.
Team Killing and Bugfixes
Gameplay
Team Killing changes.
Team Killing is no longer possible in Public Matches.
Cars can still cause damage to the players if they are hit.
Traps can still hurt and/or kill the player but there is no longer an XP penalty for the person that placed the trap in Public Matches.
Private Matches have not changed.
Fixed an issue where the Counselors breath wouldn’t start to recharge if the user continued to hold the button after breath was depleted.
Fixed an issue with Fear being canceled if pulled out of a car.
Fixed an issue with the Police Objective happening when it shouldn’t be.
Fixed a number of issues regarding objects falling through the ground.
Fixed an issue where Damage and Stun chance were only being calculated on the first attack.
Jason can no longer block through traps, firecrackers, flare guns, shotguns, and the Police.
Fixed reliability of perks that spawn items at the start of the match.
Texture and Trophy Fixes
One interesting part of the miscellaneousย patch notes listed here are the changes being made to the intro and outroย cinematics. The non-skippableย cinematicsย are the same each time with the only minor changes being which playable Jason is shown, the map the match is on, and maybe a quote or two, but other than that, it’s the same thing over and over.
It’s not clear what exactly those changes are, but any diversity on those sequences would definitely be welcome.
Misc Fixes
Increased texture resolution on the XB1.
Fixed the PhD for Murder Achievement/Trophy.
Improved intro and outro cinematics.
Fixed player muted states sometimes getting “lost” after level change.
Can now unready in Private Match even when the countdown is low.
Fixed a hitch caused by the video settings savegame after signing in or changing those settings.
