3 Biggest Player Housing Changes World of Warcraft Needs to Make In 2026

After over 20 years, World of Warcraft has finally introduced a player housing feature. The ability to own and decorate houses is a part of the upcoming Midnight expansion, which releases in March 2026. However, players who’ve pre-ordered the expansion have been granted early access to the housing feature, which arrived in beta on December 2nd. The initial response has been positive overall, with players enjoying this added layer of customization to the WoW experience. But player housing isn’t yet in its final form.

In a year-end post from Microsoft, the World of Warcraft team shared some of its plans for 2026. Midnight arrives on March 2nd, bringing the full release of player housing for those who own the expansion. And the team confirmed that changes will be coming to the feature, noting a “focus on expanding Player Housing, listening even more closely to player feedback.” As we look ahead to these updates, here are the biggest changes players want to see to housing in World of Warcraft.

3) More Customization Options, Especially For Building

WoW players have already managed to build some incredibly impressive homes in the MMORPG thanks to the tools available in Advanced Mode. However, the true customization options for player housing in early access are pretty limited compared to what players want to see when it’s fully released. As Blizzard works to expand player housing, there are a few key requests in the realm of customization that they should take into consideration.

For now, houses are created by assembling pre-built pieces, limiting the options for customizing the actual structure and build of your WoW home. Many fans would like to see options to do more custom builds, fully crafting their own exteriors and interior rooms. Players can already edit the colors on many decor items, but additional options to adjust colors for housing structures and decor are also on the player wishlist.

2) Pets and Alts Living in Player Housing

When placing their homes in WoW, players can select a neighborhood populated with other players. These spaces are great for gathering with others, who can be invited to your house. However, many WoW fans would love for those neighborhoods to feel even more vibrant with the addition of NPCs, especially those created from a player’s alternative accounts, and pets.

The team at Blizzard has already commented that this would be an interesting feature to add to WoW player housing in the future. However, there are some pathing limitations that need to be figured out before NPCs, alts, and pets can wander your WoW neighborhood at will. The same goes for battle pets and other creatures in WoW, which players want to see available for housing in the future.

1) Simplified Process for Buying Decor Items

By and large, the biggest complaint I’ve seen about player housing in WoW is the laborious process of buying items. Players must travel to specific shops to buy decor, then head back home to place it. This can result in some frustrations when it comes to duplicate items, such as fences. If you don’t buy the exact right number you need, you must travel back to a shop to get more, rather than just purchasing directly from a Build/Buy menu.

This limitation makes it hard for players to truly see their visions through in WoW. It also means the in-game cost of decorating can get pretty steep, since you need to buy the exact number of each item that you need. Hopefully, Blizzard will be able to implement a solution that lets players more easily buy the items they need for their ideal player housing build without frequent trips around Azeroth.
