Hey, we’re still excited!

EVO 2017 is looking like a pretty packed show this weekend. Not only will we see some of the best combatants in the world across a number of games, but attendees will also be able to check out upcoming games, including Bandai Namco’s Dragon Ball FighterZ, Nintendo’s Pokken Tournament DX, and Square Enix’s Dissidia: Final Fantasy.

Add another interested party to the fray, as Atlus/Sega, working alongside SNK, have announced that a new “classic” project will be announced by the companies during the show this weekend.

SNK revealed so much in a tweet, indicating, “A new Classic NEOGEO project will be exhibited at the ATLUS/SEGA- SNK booth during EVO! What could it be? #EVO2017 #neogeo”

It sounds like an old-school franchise could be making some kind of return. But the question is, which one? We already know Samurai Shodown V is making a comeback, so it won’t likely be that franchise. So what does that leave? Well, there’s King of Fighters, and it’s always good to see a new entry in that series, even if we did just get King of Fighters XIV for PlayStation 4 and PC.

But let’s dig a little deeper. There are countless other franchises that the company can bring back, including World Heroes, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, and, well, let’s go ahead and throw Samurai Shodown back in there, because a new release in that series would be absolutely killer.

We’ll let you know what the company ends up revealing at the show. As far as what else Atlus/Sega will have, there’s a good possibility we could see the forthcoming Sonic games in playable form, including Sonic Forces and Sonic Mania, which is actually set to drop sometime next month. We could also see other titles in the Atlus library, though the company hasn’t indicated if it’s just the SNK fighting game that will be on display, or if there will be something else.

Oh, and while we’re talking about old Neo-Geo beat-em-ups, we can always use a sequel to Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Because, you know, reasons.

EVO 2017 takes place from July 14th through the 16th in Las Vegas, Nevada.
