If you’re one of the many millions of fans who wish that Nintendo would revive the classic Metroid formula on the Nintendo Switch, you’ll be delighted to know that the award-winning metroidvania treasure Axiom Verge is officially Switch-bound. A special “Multiverse Edition” was previously announced for the Wii U, PS4, and Vita, but today it was revealed that it would be coming to the Nintendo Switch this August as well. Check out the announcement trailer above.

So what comes in the Multiver Edition of Axiom Verge? Quite a lot, including a making-of documentary produced by 2 Player Productions. The $30 package will contain:

Videos by ComicBook.com

Copy of Axiom Verge on disc/cartridge.

  • Deluxe booklet with developer’s commentary and art.

  • Double-sided poster with the world map and weapons/items in the game.

  • Exclusive making-of documentary.

  • Soundtrack CD. (Available only on the Nintendo Switch).

Axiom Verge was reviewed favorably across the board, from fans and from critics, and like Stardew Valley it made an especially deep impression on fans because they knew that this game, huge and ambitious in its scope, was developed by one person. This new making-of doc from 2 Player Productions will shed a clear light on Thomas Happ’s process and offer intimate details that will fascinate developers and fans alike.

“People often asked me about the early days of Axiom Verge – about how I was able to make a game completely on my own over the course of 5 years of evenings and weekends while holding down a full time job,” says developer Thomas Happ. “The long form documentary format really made it possible for me to take the time and explain that process as well as go into some detail about the difficulties of balancing work and family responsibilities.”

“This has been a dream project for us,” says Paul Levering, Producer, 2 Player Productions. “A level of access like this is rarely seen in making-of documentaries about entertainment properties โ€“ particularly with video games. We’re immensely grateful to Thomas Happ Games and BadLand Games for making our documentary a cornerstone of the Multiverse Edition.”
