Despite being perfectly-suited to PC play, the original Destiny remained stubbornly console-exclusive for its entire lifespan. Of course, there were rumors that a PC version of Destiny could happen, and new evidence seems to suggest Bungie was considering it more seriously than we thought.

Recently, NeoGAF poster Alexander DeLarge stumbled upon a Destiny listing while rummaging around in the Steam database – check it out here. The game is listed as “Unknown,” but bundles of Silver, one of Destiny‘s in-game currencies, are associated with the listing.
In fact, while the option has since been disabled, you could temporarily buy Destiny Silver on Steam. Since Destiny itself isn’t actually on Steam, you got literally nothing for your money, but still – the option existed. The folks at Eurogamer confirmed it, purchasing themselves one penny’s worth of Silver.
So, what’s a Destiny listing doing in the Steam database? We don’t know for sure, but it seems pretty obvious Bungie was planning to bring Destiny to the platform at one point. Why did they ultimately scuttle those plans? It’s hard to say — something about Steam just doesn’t seem to agree with Bungie. Previously, fans also found listings for the first three Halo games in the Steam database, but they didn’t end up coming to the platform either. Maybe Bungie just likes to tease Valve?
Unlike its predecessor, Destiny 2 will be on PC, but it will only be available through Blizzard’s Battle.net launcher. I guess when you’ve got a following like Bungie, you can put your games on whatever platform you please.
Destiny 2 hits Xbox One and PS4 on September 6. The PC version arrives slightly later on October 24.
