Eager to get your hands on Square Enix and Koei Tecmo's new fighting game Dissidia Final Fantasy NT? Well, we now know when you'll get your chance, as Square Enix has announced a date for its open beta.

The Dissidia Final Fantasy NT beta will run from August 25 until September 3, and you can sign up here if you're from North or South America, or right here if you're from Europe or Australia. You have until August 20 to sign up, and not everybody will be accepted – throwing your name into the hat early will probably give you a better chance of being chosen, so get on it.

Square Enix also announced a new Dissidia Final Fantasy fighter – Jecht from Final Fantasy X. Jecht is the father of Final Fantasy X protagonist Tidus, and a bit of colorful character. He's a Guardian, and Blitzball champion, and likes a good drink. Basically, Jecth's the Final Fantasy idea of a real man's man, although, of course, his hair is still beautiful. He should make a fine addition to the roster, although, unfortunately, Square Enix has confirmed he won't be a part of the upcoming beta.

For those unfamiliar, the Dissidia Final Fantasy games are multiplayer brawlers featuring characters plucked from across the Final Fantasy franchise. Developed by Koei Tecmo, the games cross up fighting, light strategy, and Dynasty Warriors hack 'n' slash gameplay, into a fairly unique package. Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is a console port of the most recent game in the series, which hit arcades in 2015. Still a bit confused? Don't worry, you can check full rundown of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT's mechanics in the video, below.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is scheduled to throw down on PS4 sometime in early 2018.
