Report: A Fantastic Beasts Game May Be In The Works

Warner Bros. is usually pretty on-the-money when it comes to making video games based on its popular films, like Harry Potter, Mad Max and, most recently, The Lego Ninjago Movie Video Game. But one franchise that’s pretty much gone untouched – save for some entries in the Lego Dimensions series – is Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, which originally released last year and made over $800 million at the box office.

And it seems odd, doesn’t it? Mainly because it seems properly fitting for some kind of video game treatment. But it appears that WB could be making up for lost time, as a new product listing indicates it could have a game in the works for when the sequel rolls around.

The German USK site has recently rated a listing for a product called Phantastische Tierwesen, which translates to Fantastic Beasts, for PlayStation 4 and PC, under Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. That’s the only information available about the product thus far, but considering that Warner Bros. doesn’t have any games announced for 2018 (yet, anyway), this could be the first in its line-up.

The publisher hasn’t said a word, so we’re taking the listing with a grain of salt, However, the Warner Bros. studio does have an untitled Fantastic Beasts sequel lined up for release in November 2018, featuring most of the same cast as the original, including Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston and Dan Fogler, so there’s a good chance we could see a game that covers events from both the original film and the sequel. (We’ve seen the formula before, with Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 and Years 5-7 covering the entire spectrum of films in just two game releases.)

We’ll probably hear something more about the game as soon as PlayStation Experience in December. If not, an announcement could be happening at E3, around the same time that we’ll likely have a first trailer for Fantastic Beasts 2 to get people hyped up for the holiday release. Whatever the case, it’ll be interesting to see how a Fantastic Beasts game fares, once it’s made official. We’ll let you know once it becomes a reality.
