Capcom has revealed via the official Marvel vs. Capcom Twitter account today that the chain-wielding, motorcycle-riding, skull-fire breathing hero will be making his return to the series, with a debut set for just a couple of weeks from now during Gamescom, which will take place in Germany starting August 22nd.
“Ghost Rider joins the #MCVI roster at Gamescom on 8/22,” the company noted. “But this week, he’s alongside Morrigan in our Defenders variant cover!” You can see the tweet, and the image, below.

The image indicates we’re in for one hell of a comic book series, but let’s not forget that Ghost Rider is capable of delivering quite a beating in the Marvel vs. Capcom games as well. He made his debut years ago in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, utilizing a number of his special abilities with his regular and super moves. (You can currently see that game in action now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.)
Ghost Rider joins other previously announced characters for the game, including Dormammu and Firebrand from Ghosts ‘n’ Goblins and Demon’s Crest, who have also been carried over from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The cast continues to add up, and, along with seeing new gameplay for Ghost Rider at the show, there’s a possibility we could also get a reveal on the Capcom side of things as well. We have yet to hear what Capcom’s specific plans are for the show, but it appears that Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be there in full force.
With the game just over a month away from release, Capcom is likely to continue building the hype over the next few weeks, not only with new additions to the main roster, but also reveals of what characters will be added via downloadable content. We’ve heard whispers that the likes of Black Panther and Ant-Man could be added, but nothing’s been finalized just yet.
Now we just need to know which version of Ghost Rider will be added to the game. Johnny Blaze, perhaps?
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite releases on September 19th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
