At the PlayStation Conference at E3 2017, Insomniac Games premiered gameplay for their latest creation, a Spider-Man game which will be released exclusively on PlayStation 4 platforms. This gameplay demo featured a familiar Peter Parker, one which executed not only his enemies but executed style in a way which was faithful to the comics.

Amongst the already acquainted quips and meticulous behaviors however, Insomniac made sure to tell fans that their new game would be featuring a “unique universe,” and that “it’s not based on any of the movies.”

This is resonated via the contrast of the upcoming film, Spider-Man Homecoming, as high school is a long-distant memory for the Peter Parker in the PS4 title. Peter Parker will have been leaving his webs amongst New York for the past eight years, and as Brian Intahar, the creative director for Spider-Man on PS4 describes: this Peter Parker is one which will be similar to an athlete in peak condition. Meaning that the Spider-Man you will be taking control of, will be one with the highest possible potential for his powers.
