India won’t just serve as a convenient setting for the DLC either, as it’s already been revealed that the expansion’s story will be centered around elements of Hinduism as the expansion’s protagonist Chloe Frazer searches for the Tusk of Ganesh while she explores temples and other areas. Hindu statesman Rajan Zed is concerned at how these Hindu aspects will be represented, and he wants to urge Sony and Naughty Dog to do their best to represent them respectfully.
Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, noted in his press release that he and other Hindus have no issue at all with their religion being showcased in games in other entertainment, as long as it’s done accurately and respectfully. Scriptures, symbols, traditions, concepts, and deities are just a couple of religious aspects that Zed is concerned might be misrepresented in the expansion. “Fantasized or reimagined” versions of these Hindu aspects and concepts are the main thing that Zed hopes to avoid.
He went on to state a case for all video game organizations, not just Sony, to be more dutiful in their accurate representations of all religions in video games.
“Video-game makers should be more sensitive while handling faith related subjects, as these games were a powerful medium which left lasting impact on the unsuspecting minds of highly impressionable children, teens, and other young people,” Zed said.
All of this being said by Zed is not intended to be a warning directed towards Sony as he also said in his press release that he does not expect there to be any problem from the game thanks to the “seasoned and skillful professionals at the helm.” He also added that if Sony or any other video game organizations needed any help in accurately portraying the Hindu religion in thier games, he and other Hindu leaders would be more than happy to lend their assistance.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will be released on PlayStation 4 on Aug. 22.
