A new dev diary was recently released for the upcoming Hunt: Showdown, and along with more details about the gameplay and the game’s design, the new game looks like a fresh take on the first attempt.
When Hunt: Showdown was revealed back in May, it was clear that the game had gone through plenty of changes since the first project back in 2014. No longer called Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age and with a different team heading up the creation of the game, Showdown has preserved some elements of the scrapped game while creating its own unique experience.

The game began as a team-oriented game similar to Left 4 Dead where players would fend of hoards of supernatural opponents, the game has shifted to a combination of PvE and PvP where the boss fights are just as much of a problem as the player-controlled enemy hunters.
An old-fashioned, swampy setting frames what we’ve seen of Showdown so far, so you’re not going to be relying on over-the-top technology found in other hunting games like Evolve. Working in pairs, the hunters must search for equipment, take out the minor enemies, and follow tracks in order to reach their prime boss target that they’re after. The only problem is that other players are in the game with you hunting the same boss, and only one team is leaving with the bounty.
Even after the main objective is completed, you still have to get yourself out of the map. While the other teams may not have earned the prize, they’re more than happy to take it from you. While tracking the main boss, you can also pick up on where the other players are through subtle indicators like gates creaking, dogs barking, or the more obvious sounds of guns firing.
The full dev diary video can be seen above, a look into the game that provides more gameplay scenes along with a narration of what’s happening. You’ll also be able to get a look at some of the primary hut targets such as a giant spider that’s fought in an old run-down house.
Hunt: Showdown is expected to be released for the PC, but there’s no word on a release date or if the game will be coming to consoles.
